Conquer Back To School Jitters
I have been the "new kid on the block" many times during my elementary, middle school and high school years ! My parents have moved from one area to another, and from one state to another. I had to make new friends many times and I had to walk to new hallways many times. During those challenging years I have learned a lot and here are some tips I would like to share with you!
1. Confidence. I found out that making the first day a success is not just about great hair and a great outfit, it's about self-confidence!
What is it?
How do I get it?
A month before and for the whole month after school starts look in the mirror and repeat to yourself: you are worth, you are loved, you are talented, and people like you. Write this affirmation on a piece of paper, stick it to any mirror or anywhere you spend the most time in and look at it all the time, forcing your brain to repeat it mentally.
Listen to CDs that are motivational. I listen to Worship music and it instantly "lifts me up". Find one that works for you!
Act the part, and practice at home! Rehearse with a friend, your mom, or your sibling. Show off your new attitudes practicing with them.
2. Smile. Learn to smile regardless of how you feel inside. People don't know your inner feelings; people only judge you based on what they see you showing on the outside.
Say hi to everyone you meet! You might not know it, but others feel just as shy or just as nervous as you, so being the first to greet someone makes them feel good and it opens doors to future friendships!
Prepare a speech for questions that your teachers or classmates might ask such as: how was your summer? Showing confidence when answering such questions makes an instant positive first impression.
What's the perfect thing to wear on your first day of school? Believe it or not, you should refrain from wearing the "latest fad" on the first day of school. The best item to wear should be your most comfy jeans for "sure-confidence" mixed with one new item. Pairing one old with something new can make you stand out! Make the new item be either a funky piece of jewelry or a pair of trendy shoes to make your outfit pop! Be sure to give your shoes a test drive first. A new pair of shoes = blisters = bad!
3. Haircut. Get your new "do" two weeks before school starts. If you do not get to it, have one within the first month. If you do it earlier it allows you to have time to get used to it and you won't waste time in the morning figuring out what to do with it! Make sure you try a virtual hairdo first if you are planning to make a drastic change with your hairstyle or hair color!
4. Be You! Do not experiment a new look on your first day of school! Keep the color range in tune with your under tone and only choose shades that compliment your skin coloring, regardless of what the "must haves" sections of magazines are showing!
